On the topic of vacuum beasts, some are better than others. Particularly for the job of picking up my hair and other debris. Canister vacuums are pretty nice because instead of having to push and pull the entire weight of the vacuum at one time you just have a lighter hose and vacuum head to move. Then once you have finished one section you and simply roll the canister a litter further along to collect more. To ease the pet hair frustration my girl has done some research into the matter of best canister vacuums for dog hair. Here are her top 5 picks.

I have an awesome human family and they love me so much! Except for one little thing that they find irritating about me … I have a lot of hair and it gets all over the house. Plus, my hair is long and leaves, sticks, and other treasures get stuck in my coat and bring them inside to share with my humans. My girl says that “an outfit is not complete without some dog hair on it.” But she seems to be the only human who thinks that. Everyone else is like “ah! get the vacuum!” Here comes the vacuum beast!
First, we have the Electrolux EL4335A. The coolest feature of this vacuum is that it has a removable brush roll and it removes my hair from the brush roll with the touch of a button! That makes my humans happy. No trying to cut my long fur off the brush because it got all tangled in fur. It also comes equipt with a HEPA filter that helps to remove dust and allergens from the air. So, I don’t have to sneeze so often. The vacuum only weighs 11 pounds too. So, it is not too hard to tote around and carry up and down the stair. It would also work pretty well in the car, I would imagine. Yes, it is true, my fur gets in the car too.
Next, we have the Eureka Air Excel Compact 990A. This one is also equipt with a HEPA filter. Plus, it has a telescoping wand so my humans would be able to suck up my fur from high places, like the top of window sills and ceiling fans. This vacuum beast also claims that it will never lose suction. A pretty bold claim, but if that’s true, then it can suck up all the fur that I leave around the house! It’s also the lightest-weight on the list. Weighing in at a mear 7.9 pounds! I could almost drag that around to clean up after my humans. It could even run over my tail and I don’t think I would notice… Well, maybe I would. It comes in green too, my favorite color! Well, my girl thinks green is my favorite color anyway. So, I act like it is.
The Miele Classic C1 comes with a six dial control for optimal cleaning or all surfaces. My people could use this to get my fur off the curtains, hard floors, carpet, and upholstery! I’m not even sure how my fur get’s on the curtains, but it does! This vacuum also says that it is quieter than a lot of others so it might be less scary. I know some of my fellow pups can find the vacuum beast to be pretty scary. Plus, it only weighs 10 pounds. That would make it nice for hoovering the carpeted stair to our basement… I do not usually go down there but my fur still gets on the stair. How mysterious…
Now, we have the Severin Germany Nonstop Corded Bagless Canister Vacuum. This vacuum is cool because it has no bag but you can empty it at the push of a button! It also comes with a HEPA filter. Less sneezing, yay! Plus, it has rubberized wheels so it’s not as scary when it’s getting pulled around on hard floors. It is pretty heavy, weighing in at 20+ pounds! That is about the same as me… This would definitely not feel good if it ran over my tail!
Lastly, and possibly the best, we have the New Miele Complete Cat & Dog Canister Vacuum. This vacuum has a different kind of filter that helps to neutralize odors, which is nice because humans are smelly sometimes… It also has a filter to reduce dust and allergins. Whoa, double filter! It has a 6-speed footswitch so I could change the speeds… if I got cookies for it, of course. It is pretty heavy, though, over 19 pounds. If you had to carry it for very far that would get heavy, but it rolls so no problem!
Here are a few general tips for finding the best canister vacuum for you and your pet. I always advise that you read reviews, especially when it comes to making sure the vacuum will do the job on pet hair. You can use the search function on your computer and search “pet hair.” this will highlight those words so you can sift through reviews faster.
Another thing that might be good to make note of is the amount of fur the canister will hold. If you have a large, extra furry dog(s) then you might want a larger compacity vacuum. If you only have one small dog that rules the home (like me) then a smaller capacity will work just fine.
You may also want to pay attention to other accessories the vacuum beasts come with. Some come with brushes and attachments just for upholstery, carpet, hardwood, or hard to reach places.
Another thing to consider, of course, is price. If it is too expensive then I might not get as many cookies for a while and that would be sad. But it might be worth it if my humans weren’t as distracted by my fur everywhere.
Well, I hope that this article helps you discover the best canister vacuum for your needs. I know it can be hard to strick a balance between love of your pet and an obsession with fur being everywhere. But the right vacuum beast can be your best ally against the fur horde.
